Rally & Roam

Cross-court singles

A practice game for two on a normal court using one diagonal half: each player defends half of their side and plays cross-court into the opposite half.

Cosa cambia rispetto a una partita standard

Each player uses half the width, so balls landing in the other half are out. One player a side and no partner. Not covered by the FIP rules: everything is by agreement.

Le regole

Only the agreed diagonal halves are in play. A ball that lands in the other half is out. Serve diagonally into the service box inside the agreed half, as in doubles. Two serves are allowed. The ball must bounce in the opponent's half before it touches their walls or mesh. Walls and mesh on the agreed half are used as normal after the bounce. Return the ball before its second bounce. Agree what happens when a ball lands in the right half but then runs into the other half. Treating it as in play, because the first bounce was good, is the simplest choice.

Come organizzarlo

A coach can run two games at once, one on each diagonal, so the whole court is in use. Swap diagonals after each set so both players practise from both sides.
