Holding the post between the doors
Where outside play is allowed, the upright that divides the door openings is a neutral zone above 92 cm. Any of the four players may touch or hold it there, for example to swing back onto the court.
What the rule allows
Normally, touching the net, a net post, the tension cable or the other pair's court during a point loses it. Where outside play is allowed, the rules make one exception: the vertical post dividing the door openings, above 0.92 m, is neutral, and any of the four players may touch it or hold on to it.
Below 92 cm
The exception only starts at 0.92 m, the height of the net at its ends. Lower down, the usual rules apply, so stay clear of the net and the cable.
Only with outside play
On a court where outside play is not allowed, the exception does not apply. Keep your hands off anything near the net while the ball is in play.
