Rule 14: correct returns

A return is good if it bounces in the opponents' court, directly or off your own wall, or if they volley it or it hits them. After that bounce it may hit their walls, leave the court or hit the ceiling and still be good.

Cláusula 1: Volleyed by them

Your return is good if either of the opponents volleys it.

Cláusula 2: It hits an opponent

Your return is also good if it hits any part of an opponent's body, their clothing or their racket. If the ball hits them anywhere other than the racket, they lose the point under Rule 13.

Cláusula 3: Straight into their court

Your return is good if, after you hit it, it bounces directly in the opponents' court.

Cláusula 4: Off your own wall

Your return is also good if it hits a wall in your own court first and then bounces in the opponents' court. This is what lets you play the ball off your own glass.

Cláusula 5: Bounce, then their wall

Your return is good if it bounces in the opponents' court and then hits the metal fence or one of the walls.

Cláusula 6: Bounce, then out of court

Your return is good if, because of its direction and power, it bounces in the opponents' court and then leaves the court.

Cláusula 7: Bounce, then the ceiling

Your return is also good if, after bouncing in the opponents' court, it hits the ceiling, the lights or any other object not part of the court.

Cláusula 8: Off the net into their court

Your return is good if it touches the net or a net post and then lands in the opponents' court.

Cláusula 9: Hits an object on their floor

Your return is good if, while in play, it hits an object lying on the opponents' ground that is not part of the court, such as another ball. If that object then moves in a way that could interfere or be dangerous, the point is replayed under Rule 10.

Cláusula 10: Coming back over the net

If your shot bounces correctly in the opponents' court and then comes back over the net into your court, an opponent may still hit it there. This is how a defender can still reach a heavily spun ball that bounces back over the net.

Cláusula 11: No touching on the way

That return is good only if the opponent, their clothing and their racket do not touch the net, the posts or your court, and the shot meets points 1 to 9 above.

Cláusula 12: One single movement

A return is good provided the player has not hit the ball twice, the contact happens in one single movement, and the ball's natural path off the racket does not change much.

Cláusula 13: Into the corner

Your return is good if it bounces in the opponents' court right in the corner where the wall meets the ground.

Cláusula 14: From outside the court

Where play outside the court is allowed, a ball hit from outside the court is a good return if it meets the points above.

Perguntas

Can I hit the ball off my own wall in padel?

Yes. If it hits your own wall and then bounces in the opponents' court, it is a good return.

Is it good if the ball clips the net post and goes in?

Yes. A return that touches the net or a net post and then lands in the opponents' court is good.

What if my shot bounces in their court and then hits the ceiling?

It is a good return. Hitting the ceiling, the lights or leaving the court after the bounce does not spoil it.
