A padel week abroad does not have to be expensive, but it is easy to underestimate. Court hire looks cheap when you see the price per court, flights look cheap when you book early, and then the coaching, the taxis and the dinners arrive. A simple budget, made before you book, keeps the week relaxed.

Start with the big three

Most of the cost of any padel week falls into three categories.

Travel: flights, bags and transfers. A racket in the cabin costs nothing extra on most airlines, but a second checked bag for kit can.
Accommodation: usually the single biggest cost. Location matters more than stars. A modest flat ten minutes from your club is better value than a smart hotel forty minutes away.
Padel: court hire, coaching, social formats and any camp fees.

Get rough numbers for each before you commit to a destination. The differences between cities are larger than most people expect.

Court hire varies a lot

Court prices depend on the city, the club and the time of day. As a rough guide, a court in Valencia or Madrid typically costs well under what you would pay in Paris or Milan, and Scandinavian cities sit at the higher end. Remember that the price is for the court, shared between four players, so your share is usually modest.

Off-peak slots, typically weekday mornings and early afternoons, are noticeably cheaper than evenings and weekends. On holiday you have the advantage of being free when local players are at work. Use it.

Coaching and camps

Coaching is where budgets most often stretch. A private lesson costs considerably more than court hire, while a group clinic shared between three or four players is much cheaper per head. A good balance for a week is one or two private sessions to work on something specific, with group sessions and social games for the rest.

If you are considering a camp, compare its total price with booking everything yourself. Camps include courts, coaching, balls and often meals or transfers. For many players, especially those travelling alone, that convenience is worth paying for.

The costs people forget

Local transport between your accommodation and clubs, especially taxis in the evening.
Balls. Some clubs include them, others sell tubes at the desk.
Racket hire if you leave yours at home.
Physio or massage, which many players book after day three.
Food and drink at the club. Post-match drinks are part of the culture and part of the bill.
Travel insurance that covers sports injuries and your kit.

A simple way to plan

Divide the week into days and list what each day costs: court time, coaching, transport and meals. Add the fixed costs of flights and accommodation, then add a margin of around ten percent for the things you did not plan. It is not sophisticated, but it works, and it shows quickly where you can save.

Where to save, where to spend

Save on accommodation location rather than comfort, on peak-time courts and on eating near the tourist centre. Spend on good shoes before you go, on at least one lesson with a strong local coach and on one memorable dinner. Those are the things you will remember long after the week is over.

Travelling in a group

The cheapest way to play padel abroad is with three friends. Courts, transfers and accommodation divide neatly by four, and you always have a game. If you are travelling alone, level-matched group trips give you some of the same savings with the bonus of new playing partners.

A padel week will never be the cheapest holiday you take, but planned properly it is among the best value. Few trips give you so many hours of doing exactly what you love.
