Receiving the serve

The receiver must let the serve bounce in the box before playing it, and may play it off the glass. Volleying the serve, or being hit by it before it bounces, gives the point to the server.

Let it bounce

The receiver waits for the serve to bounce in their box and plays it before it bounces a second time, either straight away or after it comes off the glass.

Volleying the serve

Hitting the serve before it bounces loses the point. So does letting it hit you, or your racket, before it bounces. The same goes for the receiver's partner: if the serve touches either of them or their rackets before it bounces, the server wins the point.

Your partner

The receiver's partner can stand anywhere on their side, usually at the net. They must not touch the serve before it bounces.

Can you volley a serve in padel?

No. The receiver must let it bounce first; volleying it loses the point.
