Volleying a ball that was going out
If their shot is flying straight into your glass or out of the court, let it go: the point is yours. Once you volley it, it is a live ball and your return has to be good.
Let it go if you can
A shot from the other pair has to bounce on your floor before it touches your walls, the mesh or anything outside the court. If it is clearly heading for your back glass on the full, or over the walls, step aside and let it hit: the point is yours.
Once you touch it, it is in
If you volley the ball, the rules count their shot as a good return, wherever it was going. The rally carries on and your shot must now land in their court. The same goes if it hits your racket by accident.
Do not let it hit you
A ball from the other pair that hits you or your clothing before it bounces loses you the point, even if it was going out. If you are not going to play it, get out of the way.
