Court dimensions
A padel court is a rectangle 20 m long and 10 m wide inside its walls, split by the net, with service lines 6.95 m from the net on each side. There must be at least 6 m of clear height over the whole court.
Clausola 1: A rectangular court
The court is a rectangle, measured on the inside.
Clausola 2: Width of the court
Measured on the inside, the court is 10 m wide.
Clausola 3: Length of the court
Measured on the inside, the court is 20 m long.
Clausola 4: Tolerance on the size
The court's measurements may be out by no more than 0.5%. Half a percent of 20 m is 10 cm, so a court can be a little short or long, but not by more than that.
Clausola 5: The net splits the court
A net runs across the middle of the rectangle and divides it into two equal halves.
Clausola 6: Where the service lines go
On each side of the net there is a service line, parallel to the net and 6.95 m away from it. That leaves just over 3 m between the service line and the back wall, which is where most of your serving and defending happens.
Clausola 7: The central service line
The area between the net and each service line is split in two by a line running at right angles to the net, called the central service line. This makes the two service boxes on each side.
Clausola 8: Centre line extends past service
The central service line carries on for at least 20 cm beyond the service line. So the middle of the court is also marked a little way behind the service line, where the server stands.
Clausola 9: Both halves are identical
The two halves of the court must be exactly symmetrical in their surface and in the way the lines are laid out.
Clausola 10: Width of the lines
Every line is 5 cm wide.
Clausola 11: Colour of the lines
Lines should preferably be white or black, so they stand out clearly against the colour of the floor.
Clausola 12: Clear height over the court
There must be at least 6 m of clear height over the whole court, with nothing, such as spotlights, getting in the way inside that space. This is why indoor clubs keep their lights and roof beams high: a lob has to be able to fly without hitting anything.
Clausola 13: Higher for new venues
For new facilities the FIP suggests a clear height of at least 8 m over the whole court, again with nothing obstructing it. This is a suggestion, not a requirement, so older venues with 6 m are still within the rules.
