When you sign in with your password, we may ask for a second step: a 6 digit code we email you. This means someone who learns your password still cannot get in without your inbox. It applies to members who have not set up an authenticator app.

How it works

1. Sign in with your email and password, or with Google or Apple. 2. We email a 6 digit code to your address. The screen shows the address with part of it hidden. 3. Enter the code and choose Sign in.

The code works for 10 minutes and for 5 tries. After that, ask for a new one.

The code has not arrived

- Check your spam folder. - Choose Send a new code. You can ask for one code a minute and 5 an hour. - If your sign-in has timed out, choose Start again and enter your email and password again.

Tick Trust this device for 30 days before you choose Sign in. See trust a device.

Which second step do I have?

Open Settings, Security and look under Second step and trusted devices. It says whether you sign in with a code we email you or a code from your authenticator app. An authenticator app is the stronger choice. See set up an authenticator app.

Passkeys skip this step, because a passkey already proves two things. See sign in with a passkey.

A code you did not ask for

If you get a sign-in code you did not ask for, someone may know your password. Change it straight away. See change your password.
