Skidding slice
A ball with backspin that stays low after the bounce and skids, especially off the glass, so the opponents have to dig it up.
When to play it
Against opponents who like a high ball to attack. To make the ball stay low off their back or side glass. On approach shots, to buy time to move forward.
How to play it
Open the face slightly and swing from high to low under the ball. Keep the stroke smooth; the spin comes from the angle, not force. Aim to land it deep enough to reach the glass low.
Common mistakes
Cutting so hard that the ball floats up. Slicing a ball that is above your head: use an overhead instead.
