Reverse overhead

Not a fixed term. Players use it for an overhead struck on the other side from normal, most often a high backhand above the shoulder when a lob goes over your backhand side and there is no time to run round it.

When to play it

When a lob goes high over your backhand shoulder and you cannot turn for a forehand overhead. As a way to keep the net instead of retreating to the back glass.

How to play it

Turn so your back faces the net a little more than usual, with the racket up early on the backhand side. Make contact above and slightly in front of the shoulder with a short, snapped swing and a slightly open face. Aim deep, then turn to face the net again.

Common mistakes

Going for power, which the backhand overhead rarely gives you. Letting the ball drop too low, so it goes into the net.

Questions

Is the reverse overhead legal in padel?

Legal under Rule 14 b. The rules do not care which side of the racket or body you use, only that it is a single hit.
