Rally & Roam

Forehand drive

The basic forehand from the back of the court, played after the bounce or off the glass, with a compact swing and control rather than power.

When to play it

From the back, on balls you can play before or after the glass. To keep the rally going low through the middle.

How to play it

Turn side on early and keep the swing short. Contact in front of you, at hip height or lower. Aim low over the net, usually cross-court or through the middle.

Common mistakes

A big tennis swing that sends the ball into the back glass. Hitting from too close to the ball.

Questions

Is the drive legal in padel?

Legal under Rule 12.3: play the ball after one bounce, off the glass if you like, before it bounces again. It must reach the opponents' court, directly or off your own walls (Rule 14.1b), and must not hit their walls or fence first (Rule 13.1g).
