Emergency volley
An improvised volley just to keep the ball in play, often high, when you are surprised or off balance.
When to play it
When the ball arrives before you are ready. When you are caught between positions.
How to play it
Get the racket to the ball with a firm face. Aim high and deep to buy time. Recover your position at once.
Common mistakes
Trying to do something clever with it. Freezing and not moving the racket.

Is the emergency volley legal in padel?
Legal under Rule 14.1a once the ball has crossed the net. You lose the point if you play it on your opponents' side before it crosses (Rule 13.1f) or touch the net or posts with your body or racket (Rule 13.1a).
