Block volley
Absorbing a fast ball at the net, usually a smash or drive at your body, by holding the racket still and letting the pace send it back.
When to play it
On fast balls at your body or feet. When the other pair smash or drive at you from close range.
How to play it
Racket up and in front, firm grip at contact. No swing: angle the face and let the ball rebound. Aim deep through the middle.
Common mistakes
Swinging at fast balls and mistiming them. Turning your head away.

Legal under Rule 14.1a once the ball has crossed the net. You lose the point if you play it on your opponents' side before it crosses (Rule 13.1f) or touch the net or posts with your body or racket (Rule 13.1a).
