Rally & Roam

Blind return

A reaction shot made when you cannot see where you are sending the ball, for example with your back to the net in a corner. It is a name for a moment, not a stroke coaches teach.

When to play it

When you are facing your own glass to dig a ball out of the corner. When a fast ball comes at you and there is only time to react.

How to play it

Trust a safe default target: high and to the middle of their court. Keep the racket face open so the ball goes up rather than into the net. Listen to your partner, who can see the court and call the gaps.

Common mistakes

Going for an angle you cannot see. Hitting hard and flat with no idea of the net height. Staying in the corner afterwards instead of turning to watch.

Questions

Is the blind return legal in padel?

Legal under Rule 14, judged only on where the ball goes: over the net and into the opponents' court, directly or off your own walls.
