Points, games and sets, deuce, the golden point, the star point and the tie-break.
Points, games and sets
Points go 15, 30, 40, game. A set is six games with a lead of two, and most matches are the best of three sets. What happens at 40-all depends on the format agreed before the start.
The tie-break
At six games all, a tie-break decides the set: points count 1, 2, 3, the first pair to seven with a lead of two wins, and the set goes down as seven-six.
Calling the score
Points are called love, 15, 30, 40 and game, with the server's score first. Calling the score out loud before each serve is the simplest way to avoid arguments.
Mistakes in a tie-break
If the wrong player serves, the receivers swap or the ends are not changed after six points, put it right as soon as you notice. Points already played stand.
Serving and receiving at the start of a new set
Each new set is a fresh start for the order inside each pair: you can change who serves first and who receives first. After a tie-break, the pair that did not serve first in it start the next set.
