Topspin backhand

A backhand with forward spin so it dips. It is less common in padel, where most backhands are sliced.

When to play it

To dip the ball at the feet of net players. For an angled or passing backhand.

How to play it

Start low and brush up through the back of the ball. Keep the wrist firm and finish high. Clear the net by a safe margin.

Common mistakes

Using it on low balls, where slice is safer. Over-spinning so the ball lands short.

Questions

Is the topspin backhand legal in padel?

Legal under Rule 12.3: play the ball after one bounce, off the glass if you like, before it bounces again. It must reach the opponents' court, directly or off your own walls (Rule 14.1b), and must not hit their walls or fence first (Rule 13.1g).
