Rally & Roam

Mixicano (mixed Mexicano)

Mexicano with mixed pairs: every pair has one player from each side, usually one woman and one man, and new pairs are made from the standings after every round.

What changes from a standard match

Rally-point scoring and personal totals replace games and sets. Pairings come from the standings, and each pair must be mixed. Rankings are kept per side, which is not part of any FIP format.

The rules

Every pair has one player from each side, in every round. Round one is drawn at random or seeded. Every rally scores one point, and both players add the pair's score to their totals. After each round, players are ranked within their own side. The top two of each side play on court 1, the next two of each side on court 2, and so on. The organiser announces how the four on a court are paired, for example the top woman with the second man against the second woman with the top man. The highest totals win, in a combined table or one table per side, as announced. If the event plays golden point or star point games instead of rally points, the FIP mixed rule applies on the deciding point: the receiver is the same sex as the server.

How to run it

Check the sides are equal and decide what happens if they are not. Draw round one with one player from each side in every pair. After each round, rank each side separately. Fill the courts from the top down with two players from each side, and pair them as announced. Play the planned rounds and publish the tables.
