Continuous play and time violations
Once a match starts it must run without delay beyond the times in Rule 2. A first time violation earns a warning; after that the serving pair loses a first serve or the receiving pair loses a point, then more points follow.
Bestimmung 1: Play is continuous
Once a match has started, it must carry on without interruption.
Bestimmung 2: No delay beyond Rule 2
No player may hold up the match beyond the times allowed in Rule 2 without a reasonable cause. Rule 2 allows at most 20 seconds between points, 90 seconds at a change of ends and 120 seconds at the end of a set.
Bestimmung 3: First violation: a warning
The first time a player goes over the limit, they receive a warning for a time violation.
Bestimmung 4: Second offence when serving
On a repeat time violation, a pair that is serving loses its first serve.
Bestimmung 5: Second offence when receiving
On a repeat time violation, a pair that is not serving loses a point.
Bestimmung 6: Further violations: more points
Any later violations each cost a further point, as the referee decides.
Bestimmung 7: Serious cases: more penalties
For serious repeat offences or unsporting delay, the referee may add further penalties, disqualification included, under the disciplinary code.
