Punch volley
A compact, firm volley with a short forward punch, the volley most players use most of the time.

Racket up and in front, continental grip. Short backswing, then punch forward through the ball. Step towards the ball as you hit.

Legal under Rule 14.1a once the ball has crossed the net. You lose the point if you play it on your opponents' side before it crosses (Rule 13.1f) or touch the net or posts with your body or racket (Rule 13.1a).
